How free are you?
If you eat, you are part of the Agriculture Chain irrespective of what you eat. It makes great sense then, to question 'what' you eat, 'how' it is produced and 'how' you can ensure you keep the supply going and also understand 'how' your food reaches you. You are an integral part of the mechanics of what will be produced, how and for how long and by who. You decide your food supply by the choices you exercise, the questions you raise and the involvement you show. The same goes for the quality of air we breathe, or the water we drink. We own the waters and the air when we treat it right, use it wisely and stay invested in its preservation. There has never been a war over abundance, merely over fear of scarcity.
If you own any form of identity that marks you as a citizen of any country, you automatically become involved in the politics of your nation, its resources, its rules and its regulations. You do not become more political because you are vocal or less political because you are silent. You are merely trying to enjoy the benefits of safety while someone is risking theirs to speak on your behalf. You should be ashamed to be a parasite of the land you stand on.
You are not smart or evolved because you do not vote or have become cynical of the system. Your voting or not voting, which party you belong to or would like to support has nothing to do with your patriotism or cleverness. Irrespective of your preferences on being vocal or silent, it is critical to stay invested (irrespective of who is in power) into things around you. It is you who makes the systems run. Stop becoming a mere target of governments. Become an active participant even if only an active, interested observer of the drama played around by the politicians of your country or its large corporations. Your governments are supposed to work for you.The resources of the world are not theirs to dole out and for you to be grateful for. They are yours to claim and nurture. Your existence is the closest to sacredness you will ever know. Do not take that lightly and give it away easily. Human life becomes cheap when it is treated cheaply. Do not expect the government to put a higher value for your life because you pay taxes. You will be valuable only if you help their causes. So,If you give up that power, they will use that against you to make you powerless. You owe your involvement into all things political however distasteful it may be.
It does not matter which class of consumer you may belong to, how entitled you may have become or how far you may have climbed in life. You still have to eat food, shit, sleep, drink water, and die. You can only buy yourself higher ivory towers, but it is important to be grounded in your mortality for it will catch up with you whether you like it or not. You have to become aware of what you consume and what happens to the products you consume - be it gadgets, fancy clothes, cars, food choices. If we are not aware of how we treat our waste and where it goes, one day the stink will engulf everyone including you however high you may build the ivory towers.
Be aware of how you exercise your choices whatever they may be. Clothes, food, profession, safety, freedom. Stand up for the right to choose. Always. And, teach yourself to make better and better choices. Be aware of manipulation however cleverly presented. Be open enough to take the best from many things, but do not be gullible. Travel and read as much as you can. The world is wide and complex. The more you know, the less someone can manipulate you or get you afraid. Own your individuality. Let not technology, religion, society, politics or your country take that away from you. These are assumed notions.
You are the only real thing to the extent we may define reality that you are born with and die with, and even others around you are only comprehended by you through your own sense of self. Never put that self on sale. For anything. For anyone.
Freedom is not a list of bullet points that one gets within a certain year or granted by someone nor is there a format to celebrate freedom. Your freedom lies in staying invested in your life, identity, growth and always ensuring that no one has a higher control over you than you do.
If you own you, you are free.
